Welcome to the Family Archive
An introduction to the Pakhtunwali genealogy project and what you'll find in this blog.
About This Project
Welcome to the Pakhtunwali family archive. This project documents our multi-generational Pashtun family saga, preserving stories, relationships, and historical context for future generations.
What You'll Find Here
This blog serves as a narrative companion to the structured genealogical data. While the main database tracks:
- People - family members across four generations
- Events - births, marriages, migrations, and significant moments
- Places - the geographical journey of our family
- Artifacts - documents, photographs, and oral histories
...this blog provides the stories that connect these data points into a living narrative.
The Pashtunwali Code
Our family's history is deeply intertwined with Pashtunwali, the traditional code of the Pashtun people. This code emphasizes:
Melmastia (hospitality), Nanawatai (sanctuary), and Nang (honor) form the foundation of our ancestral values.
These principles shaped the decisions our ancestors made and continue to influence our family today.
Epistemic Humility
One of the guiding principles of this archive is epistemic humility - acknowledging what we don't know with the same care we apply to what we do know.
When a date is recorded as "c. 1905," it means we know the approximate year but not the exact date. This honesty about uncertainty is central to how we document our history.
Looking Ahead
Future posts will explore:
- Individual biographies of family members
- The great migrations that shaped our family's geography
- Cultural traditions passed down through generations
- Analysis of historical documents and photographs
Thank you for joining us on this journey through our family's past.
